Transforming Global Healthcare Through Mobile and Digital Technology
Transforming Global Healthcare Through Mobile and Digital Technology

Dear ~Contact.FirstName~,

This month's newsletter features a list of top 10 countries which became the biggest recipients of humanitarian relief in the last decade. According to the data gathered by UN OCHA’S Financial Tracking Service and OECD DAC, the list comprises Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Indian Ocean Tsunami, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Haiti, Pakistan, South Sudan and West Africa.

Talking of the latter region, one of the innovative solutions that was implemented in the Republic of Senegal to supply drinking water was Kärcher Futuretech’s Waterclean 3000 water supply system. The system allows drinking water to be obtained from any natural source of water, offering high quality of water as well as mobility and flexibility.

We would like to bring to your attention the latest AIDF’s report on “Mobile for Development: Transforming Global Healthcare Through Mobile Technology”. The report outlines recent technological advances within the health sector and attempts to address the challenges faced by introducing and expanding mHealth solutions.

Lastly, the AIDF is launching its Africa Summit 2016, which will focus on technological innovations and best practice to improve aid delivery and development strategy in East Africa. The Summit will take place on 2-3 February at the United Nations Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Kind regards,
AIDF Team

Digital Cash for Refugees in Kenya’s Kakuma Camps
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has introduced digital cash in the Kakuma refugee camps in Kenya which are home to 180 000 mostly South Sudanese refugees. The cash transfers – dubbed 'bamba chakula', or 'get your food' in Swahili-based Sheng slang – replace part of the monthly food ration that the refugees receive. The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) has eagerly supported this initiative which injects not just money but also more choice and dignity in refugees’ lives.
